It depends on the size of the job, materials, access, and how soon you need it done. Most trades quote a fixed price for a defined job and an hourly rate for repairs and call-outs. Asking two or three local businesses for a written quote is the quickest way to see the going rate in Sydney.
Most residential trade work in Australia must be done by a licensed contractor, and building work above a set value needs a written contract and home warranty insurance. The rules differ by state, so check the licence number before work starts. Listings marked "Licensed" show a licence or certification on their profile.
