“This company is the perfect example why you should get a second opinion and quote if what you are being told doesn’t ring true. Got them out to inspect a powerpoint that had tripped the safety at the metre box and to replace the powerpoint if necessary. Within 10 minutes of arriving I was told that the powerpoint and the safety needed replacing. The quote was almost $600 with the majority of that for a 16A safety to replace the current 20A. The sparky insisted that the safety needed replacing and wasn’t prepared to replace the powerpoint unless I authorised it as he also couldn’t be sure of the quality of the cabling (the house is less than 10 years old). I told him I was happy to proceed with the powerpoint but not both at that price so he left. I called the owner of a large electrical business to come out and take a look. The first thing he did was to put the multimeter on the powerpoint to check it and it was clear immediately the powerpoint was fine so he asked “did the other company reset the safety breaker”. No. He went and reset the safety and that is all that was required - a simple reset. He also documented that the cabling is compliant and in excellent order and the safet”
